SALEM, OR - Saturday, December 18 - On this night, the best was saved for last.
Let by a monster game from 5-star Alabama-commit Brandon Miller, Cane Ridge (TN) beat a game Lincoln team 78-68 to advance to the Capitol City Classic quarterfinals. The Ravens will play Beaverton on Monday at 8:30 pm at Gordie James Court at Willamette University.
Miller was spectacular and effortless at the same time, a player who explodes yet doesn't seem to be out of control much if ever. He shared the ball with teammates, led his team and wound up with the easiest 40 points you will see scored in a high school game, going 9/15 from the field, including 5/12 from 3, to go along with 7/7 from the line.
When the going was tough, it was Miller time for the Ravens.
And Cane Ridge, the CCC's top seed, needed every bit of Miller's heroics on this night. Lincoln led by as many as 13 points in the first quarter behind Sawyer Heald and Malachi Seely-Roberts and their accuracy from the 3-point line. As the game wore on, the Cardinals became increasingly focused on Moroni Seely-Roberts, who showed excellent strength and savvy inside the paint and a nice touch from the perimeter, too, en route to 35 points.
The Miller v Seely-Roberts show was similar to the 2019 shootout between Tigard's Drew Carter (49 points) and Justin Scoggin (41 points).
The difference, however, was Miller, as his combination of efficiency and explosiveness was something to behold. On the night, Miller finished with more than half a dozen dunks, and some were nothing less than spectacular.
Senior guard Ja'Lyn Lawrence chipped in 20 points for the Ravens.
In other action, Roosevelt (2-0) beat Crescent Valley, 82-61, behind 23 points from sophomore guard Terrence Hill. Rancho Christian (CA), the defending CCC champions, rolled to a 58-34 victory over Salem Academy. Eric Kuang led the Eagles with 16 points. Beaverton, meanwhile, knocked off South Salem by the score of 63-34. Junior Brady Rice had a game-high 16 points to lead the Beavers.
