There were three tight games and one lopsided affair on opening night at the 2018 Capitol City Classic.
In the tourney's tip-off game, Lincoln pulled away from a game North Salem team in the second half to win 64-54. The Cardinals were led by Ben Jeffers with 19 points and Daniel Kovalev with 18.
Tigard defeated Cleveland 58-54 in the 5:30 game.
The 7:00pm game was a thriller, with the Roughriders of Roosevelt outlasting Corvallis, 64-62. Three players scored in double figures for Roosevelt, who watched a late-game three-point attempt by the Spartans rim out at the buzzer. Corvallis 7'3 junior Jasper Reinalda (#55, photo to right) chipped in 10 points for the Spartans.
In the nightcap contest, Wilsonville beat Crook County, 81-45. Junior guard Gabe Reichle scored 23 points and had 6 rebounds, while senior backcourt mate Jack Roche added 22 points and 10 assists. The Wildcats played without 6'6 junior Dakota Reber (illness) and 6'2 senior Sam Westing (injury).
Tomorrow night, the second half of the opening round takes place, featuring all four of the tournament's out-of-state schools: Centennial (Corona, CA); Dutchtown (Hampton, GA); Higley (Gilbert, AZ) & Liberty (Issaquah, WA).
