SALEM, OR (December 22, 2016) - The 2nd Annual Capitol City Classic presented by Adidas Basketball continued play with round 2 at Willamette University in Salem on Wednesday, December 21.
In the championship semi-finals, Mater Dei (CA) used a feisty 2-3 zone and 23 points from freshman guard Beon Riley to overcome a considerable size disadvantage and upend the Skyhawks of Southridge, 47-43. Southridge was led sophomore wing Brock Henry, who scored 19 points in the loss.
In the night's finale, West Salem edged Wilsonville 63-62. The Titans Kyle Greeley calmly made two free throws with :11 to go in the game after a questionable call on what appeared to be a clean and spectacular blocked shot by the Wildcats' Harrison Steiger. Wilsonville's final two roughly contested shots did not receive the same benefit of a call, and the hometown Titans moved on to the championship game while the Wildcats 21-game winning streak was broken. Junior Zac Bulgin led the Titans with 24 points while Greeley chipped in 19. Reichle led Wilsonville with 19.
Salem's Sprague and McNary rebounded from opening round losses. The Olys were led by junior Teagan Quitoriano's 26 points in their 65-50 win over Thurston. McNary had four guys in double figures in their 80-42 victory over the Plainsmen of Evergreen (WA).
