SALEM, OR (December 23, 2016) - The Wilsonville Wildcats, the top-ranked team in Oregon 5A basketball, beat the 6A perennial power South Eugene Axemen in the 3rd place game of the Capitol Auto Group Bracket at the Capitol City Classic held at Willamette University.
The Wildcats raced out to a 15-2 start, but led at the half only by a 26-19 score. The Cats pressure defense then fueled transition offense in the third quarter, and by the end of that period Wilsonville had built a commanding 49-27 lead.
Wilsonville (4-2) was led by junior wing Harrison Steiger who scored 18 points while fellow junior wing Zach Reichle added 13. The Axemen were led by David Hollan who scored 13 points, 11 in the second half.
