The Salem Basketball Officials Association (SBOA) was founded in 1946 by 15 officials who refereed nearly 300 games that year.  

Today, the SBOA has grown to 10 times that number while officiating over 4,000 games in the Salem, OR area.  

Thanks to a love of the game and the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie, the members of the SBOA apply the principles and guidelines of the National Federation's Mission Statement with each game we work, at all levels we serve.

The SBOA is a partner of the Capitol City Classic, quietly supporting the event in substantial ways that are helping grow the game in Salem-Keizer.  As the event has grown and improved, the SBOA has been there every step of the way providing quality officiating and behind-the-scenes support, too.

Roth's was founded by Herman C. Jochimsen and Orville N. Roth on August 5th, 1962 when they opened their first store in Silverton, Oregon. Roth's brand of customer service, cleanliness, product quality and community involvement made possible the opening of the first of five Salem-area stores only three years later. Another serving McMinnville was opened in that first decade.

Ever since the inception of the Capitol City Classic, the event has been played at Willamette University, the oldest university in the West founded in 1842.  Willamette is an excellent location for the CCC, offering excellent and newly-renovated athletic facilities, three basketball courts, a central and easy-to-reach location in Salem and convenient parking during their holiday break.  Big thanks to all of our Bearcat friends for sharing their facility with us and making us feel so welcome every year!
